I feel like this is the first time in ages that I have "talked" without a recipe, strange right? Well, this is why.
As you may or may not know, I aspire to be a vegan in a few years time, once I leave home, but because I have learnt the impact on health and environment of eating a vegetarian or omnivore diet, I find it so hard to eat dairy products. I had come to an agreement with my parent that I could be a vegetarian, (they are too set in their ways for me to become a vegan right now.) but the though of eating dairy products makes my stomach do flips.
I drink soy milk and I eat "the cheese" when asked to. However, I use dairy milk and butter in my baking, completely contradicting my ideas for now and for the future.
Okay, so this is my plan - plant-based baking. For a month, I'm going to post recipes which are exclusively vegan, no dairy or eggs in the bakes.
If in a month it all works out well, I guess I'll continue, it makes sense to me!
If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see my feed is mainly dominated by stacks of vegan pancakes and salad, the food I enjoy.
Sometimes I feel I "have to make this or that", to stay popular and trendy but the fact is, nothing is more popular or trendy than making the things you love.
above: open faced sandwiches. German rye bread toasted and topped with hummus, chickpeas, lettuce, carrot, red onion, olives and basil.
Of course there is going to be cakes etc. that do contain sugars and fats, not all vegan baking is healthy but it is healthier than baking that contains butter and cream.
So, to recap, starting now, for a month, plant-based vegan baking and after that, I probably continue.
I don't want you to get put of my blog for putting avocado in a chocolate tart or using flaxseed in a cake but I guarantee, if you tasted it, you wouldn't even notice !
So yeah, are you in favor of this change or do you have any tips for me? Let me know you opinions in the comments below.
Bye for now,
